John Chmara, 71, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Oct. 29 in a Roanoke
Born Aug. 21, 1932, in Minden, W.Va., he was a son of the late Filmon
and Mary Zolmerchuck Chmara.
From 1986-1993, Mr. Chmara was the head football coach at Fauquier High School, during which time he had the most wins in the school's history, including three straight regional championships.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Chmara.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary E. Blankenship Chmara; a
son, John Thomas Filmon Chmara II; and a sister, Nellie Chmara of Oak
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 31, during the Fauquier
High School football game.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Mercer Funeral Home, 1231 West Cumberland Road, Bluefield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, from Edgemont Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Owens and the Rev. Dan Jividan officiating.
